After the horrible events of 911, the world is seeing a war develop that (we fear) might not come to a peaceful resolution in the near future. In order to express our desire for a more peaceful world, we have choreographed a dance for our robots - President Bush and Osama Bin Laden.

Our brilliant ideas come in a flash, but the flash comes only after a lot of work. We came from various classes in Kwun Tong Kung Lok Government Secondary School and had learnt about Robotlab programming in small group sessions. We grouped together to do the design and setup our unique programmes . With the knowledge acquired, we have proceed to becoming inventors and built our personalized robots with unique ¡§personalities¡¨ - our robotic caricatures of President Bush and Osama Bin Laden, with the aim that the two robots would dance together in unison and harmony. 

 

We had gone through the following 4 stages:

Stage 1:

Design and build our robots using the RCX brain chip (a microcomputer that can be programmed to respond to the environment) and LEGO pieces.

Stage 2:

Create a programme using the click-and-drag ROBOLABTM software to download into the RCX brain chip to give control, behaviour and even a ¡§personality¡¨ to the robot.

INVENTOR LEVEL

The Inventor Level consists of four levels of advanced programming templates that give us more programming flexibility and creativity.

Stage 3:

Download our programme to the RCX brain chip using a special infrared transmitter that gives life and function to the robots built.

Stage 4:

The last step involves the execution of the programme where we can test and find out if our robots act exactly as intended.

Music is the true international language and we believe that our similarities are greater than our differences and that the whole world should dance together.

Although robots are lifeless and without feeling, we hope that our choreography can be a symbol of a more peaceful world.

Through creating our own robots by using Lego Dacta kits, we gain hand-on experiences, stretch our endless imagination and attain better understanding of concepts about programming. Creativity is greatly emphasized throughout the entire course. Learning is being such fun that it becomes never be the same as before.

In fact, the following learning outcomes have been found after the competition :

l         Encourage creativity and innovation through the creation of robots.

l         Develop our science and engineering skills through hands-on experiences that relate back to the real world.

l         Develop an understanding of basic programming language.

l         Develop communication and social skills through teamwork.
